Thankfully, I was given to drama and lists and methodically recording every aspect of my life. And music and the charts were my main obsession.

On holidays in Dublin in 1981, I was wandering around Pennys in Ballymun (because our holidays stretched to staying in my Granny’s house) and I found a “Pop Diary”. Two words guaranteed to grab my full attention. A printed book that allowed me to record the chart and give songs my own personal rating! I was hooked.
